Abstract

Fragments of architectural models have been found in various sanctuaries in Selinunte. They represent three different types and date back to the 6th century BC. The most important problem of their interpretation is what kind of votive they have been. Who offered them for what reason? The lecture tries to argue that after the consolidation of the newly founded ‘polis’ women of the first settlers presented these images of their houses to the respective goddesses to express their gratitude for protection.
